Bring the broth (or water) to a gentle simmer in a pot.
Add the ginger and garlic (if using), allowing it to simmer for about 10 minutes to infuse the flavor.
Remove from heat and let cool slightly—avoid boiling once the miso is added.
In a small bowl, whisk the miso paste with a bit of warm broth until smooth, then stir it back into the pot.
Add the lemon juice and soy sauce or tamari (if using). Stir to combine.
Pour into mugs or bowls and garnish with chopped green onions and fresh herbs before serving.
Notes
Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to three days. Reheat gently on the stove before serving. For a spicier twist, add sliced chili or a dash of chili flakes. You can also include diced vegetables for extra nutrition.
