For the Filling
5largeGolden Delicious apples, peeled and cubed
1grated Golden apple
⅓cupgranulated sugar
2tbspbrown sugar
1tbsplemon juice
1tbspwater
1½tbspcornstarchhelps thicken the filling
1tspvanilla extract
½tspground cinnamon
⅛tspnutmeg
⅛tspsalt
2tbspmelted butter
For the Crumble Topping
1cup + ⅓ cupgluten-free rolled oats
⅓cupgluten-free flour (Cup4Cup or similar)
⅓cupbrown sugar
2tspvanilla extract
2tspwater
¼tspsalt
8tbspunsalted butter, softened
⅓cupchopped nuts (optional)for added crunch
Instructions
Preparation
Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C). Grease a small baking dish.
Mix all filling ingredients. Spread evenly in the dish, pour over melted butter. Cover with foil and bake for 20 minutes.
Crumble Preparation
Prepare the crumble topping by pulsing oats, flour, sugar, salt, vanilla, and butter until crumbly. Add remaining oats and nuts.
Assemble and Bake
Remove foil, reduce oven to 350°F (175°C), scatter crumble over the apples, and bake uncovered for 40 minutes, until golden and crisp.
Rest and Serve
Cool for 30–60 minutes to let the juices thicken. Serve warm with ice cream or cream.
Notes
Best served slightly warm, after resting. For a deeper flavor, bake a day ahead; the oats absorb the apple syrup overnight, creating a more tender, aromatic texture.
