  • 24 pastel chocolate candies (M&M-style or chocolate buttons)

Instructions

Preparation

  • In a large mixing bowl, cream the softened butter and granulated sugar together until the mixture is light and fluffy.
  • Mix in the egg and vanilla extract until fully combined.
  • In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt. Gradually add this mixture into the wet ingredients, stirring until a soft dough forms.
  • If you want to color your cookies, tint portions of the dough with pastel food coloring until you achieve your desired shades.
  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line baking sheets with parchment paper.

Baking

  • Roll the dough into small balls and place them on the prepared baking sheets. Lightly flatten each cookie and use the handle of a wooden spoon to press an indentation in the center.
  • Bake for 10–12 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden and the centers remain soft.
  • Remove cookies from the oven and immediately press a pastel chocolate candy into the center of each cookie while they are still warm.
  • Allow the cookies to cool completely before transferring them to a wire rack or storing them.
