Instructions

Preparation

  • Slice the loaf of bread into thick slices and arrange them in a greased baking dish.
  • In a bowl, whisk together eggs, half-and-half, heavy cream, granulated sugar, vanilla extract, and salt.
  • Pour the egg mixture over the bread slices, making sure they are well coated.
  • Cover and refrigerate overnight.

Baking

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • In a separate bowl, mix brown sugar and melted butter, then sprinkle it over the soaked bread.
  • Bake for 35-40 minutes until golden brown and custardy.
  • Serve warm, topped with optional toppings.

Notes

Use day-old bread for better absorption of the custard mixture. Let it soak overnight for the best flavor and texture. For added crunch, use a kitchen torch to caramelize the sugar topping just before serving. Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 3 days.
