Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • 1 12 oz bag fresh cranberries
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup orange juice
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1/2 tsp orange zest optional
  • 1/4 tsp cinnamon optional

Instructions

Preparation

  • In a medium saucepan, combine the orange juice, water, and sugar. Stir and bring to a simmer over medium heat until the sugar dissolves.
  • Add the cranberries to the saucepan and cook, stirring occasionally, until the cranberries start to pop (about 10-12 minutes).
  • Stir in the orange zest and cinnamon (if using) and continue cooking until the sauce thickens to your desired consistency.
  • Remove from heat and let the sauce cool to room temperature. It will continue to thicken as it cools.

Notes

Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to two weeks. For longer storage, freeze the sauce but leave space in the container as it may expand. You can blend it for a smoother texture and adjust the sweetness as desired. Adding fruits like apples or pears, or spices like nutmeg can create variations.
