This easy and sweet cornbread recipe is perfect for family dinners and pairs wonderfully with soups and stews.

Ingredients

Dry Ingredients

  • 1 cup cornmeal
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

Wet Ingredients

  • 1 cup milk Can substitute with buttermilk for richer flavor.
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/4 cup melted butter

Instructions

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Grease an 8-inch square baking dish or a similar-sized skillet.
  • In a large bowl, combine the cornmeal, flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt. Stir well to mix.
  • In another bowl, whisk together the milk, eggs, and melted butter.
  • Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients. Mix until just combined. Avoid overmixing to keep the cornbread tender.
  • Transfer the batter to your prepared baking dish.

Baking

  • Bake for 20-25 minutes or until the top is golden brown and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  • Let it cool slightly before serving.

Notes

Serve the cornbread warm. Adds a pat of butter or honey for extra flavor. Store leftover cornbread in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days or freeze for up to 3 months. Thaw before serving.
