Instructions
Preparation
Peel the sweet onions and slice off the tops. Carefully cut a star pattern into the onion, making sure not to cut through the base.
Place the prepared onions in a bowl and cover them with buttermilk. Let them soak for at least 30 minutes.
In a separate bowl, combine the flour, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, cayenne pepper, salt, and pepper. Mix until well combined.
Cooking
Remove the onions from the buttermilk and shake off any excess. Dip each onion into the flour mixture, ensuring that all surfaces are coated.
Preheat your air fryer to 375°F (190°C).
Lightly spray the coated onions with cooking spray or oil.
Place the onions in the air fryer basket and cook for about 10-15 minutes, or until golden brown and crispy. Check at the halfway point and flip if needed.
Serving
Once cooked, carefully remove them from the air fryer and let them cool slightly before serving.
Notes
Serve with your favorite dipping sauce, such as ranch or garlic aioli. Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to three days.
